Hand Stamped Monogrammed Tie Clips and Initial Bracelets

It’s wedding season! I haven’t posted in awhile because I haven’t had many new items to share- most of my efforts have gone toward completing orders from brides and grooms with weddings on the horizon for their bridesmaids and groomsmen. Since the hand stamped initial bracelets and men’s monogrammed tie bars have been so popular with the brides and grooms, I thought that I would start selling them in groups instead of only individually, to give a bit of a discount on bulk orders. Hand stamped items like the sterling silver initial bracelets and the monogrammed tie clips below make great gifts for a group of people- especially for those people to whom you want to say thanks for supporting you on your way to and on your special day- whether that special day be your wedding, your graduation, or some other accomplishment for which you want to thank people for their support.  Elegant yet versatile, both the tie clips and the bracelets will accessorize any outfit, whether it be formal or daily wear, and are a great personalized memento of whatever occasion you choose.

The Tie Clips feature the slightly larger Arial font for the initial of the surname, which in the traditional monogram style is the center letter, with a slightly smaller 2mm Typewriter Font for the initial of the first and middle names. I bend and cut the tie clips myself, so the size and length is totally up to the customer! These were made to fit the skinny ties of 6 groomsmen and a groom- I’ve requested pictures from the wedding, so hopefully I’ll be able to post them soon!

I’ve also started offering FREE gift packaging with each order- customers can choose what ribbon color they’d like or can choose twine. This one below is what one of the grooms chose for his gift packaging.

The hand stamped sterling silver initial bracelets are done with a 6 mm font called Seymour, which is a type of monogram font. I can’t wait to see (and post) the pictures from this wedding as well!

Hand Stamped Pieces- Music Lyrics, Birthstones, and of Course, Something for Mom

Although the countdown to finals (and having to come up with a 30 page paper on the meaning of justice…ahhhh) is less than a week away, I have gotten a chance in my free time (the time I have cut out of my sleeping schedule) to experiment with some more hand stamped pieces as well as some more bohemian pieces (WHICH I WILL POST TOMORROW…or the next day), which I haven’t been doing as much, and plan to do more of as soon as I have time to breathe again. So, since I haven’t posted in awhile, I thought I would post a few of my newer pieces below, and get back to studying/having writer’s block.

‘Let it Be’ Beatles Necklace

This first necklace is one that I’ve been meaning to make for a long time-Let it Be is one of my favorite songs! I have really wanted to start branching out into song lyrics and more actual words and quotes in the hand stamped category, so, if anyone has any suggestions for words or lyrics to hand stamp into a necklace, ring, bracelet, or even keychain, I’m listening! -and I’ll give you a discount for the idea ; ) .

let it be hand stamped necklace

Monogrammed Necklaces w/ Swarovski Birthstones

The next two necklaces are monogrammed brass and sterling silver, respectively. The brass necklace hangs on a satin finish 16-inch brass chain with a gold-filled trigger clasp, and the sterling silver necklace hangs on a 16 inch sterling silver chain with a sterling silver clasp. I know I have done the monogrammed necklaces and other pieces before, but I just finally got in Swarovski Crystal of each month’s birthstone, and I’m excited to say that although these were only listed for a day, I already was commissioned to do 2 sets of them (one in brass and one in sterling silver) as gifts from two brides-to-be to their bridesmaids, with each of their birthstones along with the monogram. (Of course I get the big orders during finals! Buttt… I am NOT complaining!). Also, in case you were wondering, these are both February birthdays with a Swarovski amethyst crystal.

Mother’s Day Hand Stamped Necklace

Finally, I realized that I am not only a terrible daughter because I won’t be able to make it to Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday, a family tradition, but also because I hadn’t gotten my mom anything yet. So, I decided to make her a necklace. The necklace below is a solid brass wavy heart pendant hanging on a 16 inch satin finish brass chain. On the heart, I stamped a symbol of a mother and child- the mother is bending over and hugging the child, and a heart is created in the space between them.  I saw the metal stamp and HAD to have it- I loved it, and I knew my mom would too. Bam. the perfect sentimental gift for Mom. Now I have to get back to studying ; (

Hand Stamped Monogrammed & Initial Bracelets

The lakeshore lavaliere hand stamped brass initial/monogrammed ring, hand stamped sterling silver initial ring,  & the hand stamped nickel & stainless steel initial/monogrammed ring are the two most popular items in the lakeshore lavaliere online shop, so I decided to make them in bangle form! I wanted to make a bangle that was different from most I’ve had in the past in 2 ways. First, I wanted it to be a better fit to the wrist in terms of shape, which was a problem easily solved by purchasing an oval bracelet mandrel, one that sizes bracelets to fit the actual shape of your wrist instead of just a circle. I’m so happy I bought the oval one because from the feedback I’ve gotten, the bracelets actually fit the wrist perfectly, because they are tailored to right size and shape. Second, I wanted to make a bangle that didn’t have to slip over the hand because in my experience, those usually end up completely upside down with the monogrammed/initialed disc on the bottom of my wrist. This happens because when there is no clasp, bangles have to be bigger to fit over your hand, and then they slip around on your wrist when you wear them. This is fine if the bangle has a uniform design, but if there is one part that is supposed to be on top, it’s a real pain. So I decided to create my bangles with a clasp on the bottom to avoid this problem. I designed  a clasp that keeps the bracelet on your wrist while wearing it and that makes it easier to put the bracelet on and take it off. And, since the first bangle pictured below is mine and I’ve been wearing it pretty much daily,  I’m happy to say that the clasp does exactly what I wanted- it keeps the bangle clasped (obvi), allows for the bangle to be the right size for my wrist, and keeps the monogrammed part in place on top of my wrist where it belongs. The lakeshore lavaliere monogrammed bangle also comes in both a brass and sterling silver bangle with a simple initial.

Monogrammed Tie Bars

Since school has started to pick up as finals near, I haven’t got a chance to post in awhile. Between scrambling to get everything together for finals, having nightmares about the bar exam (which I don’t even take for another year…I guess while I may procrastinate, my subconscious and the nightmares it produces do not), and filling orders, my internet and social media presence for lakeshore lavaliere has been lacking. I also realized that the  lakeshore lavaliere men’s section is a little barren, and since the monogrammed tie clips with the spring have been so popular, I’ve decided to offer another style of tie clip, or rather, a tie bar. I have to give credit where credit is due, however, because the first (the ones with a spring will heretofore be referred to as tie clips, and the ones without springs will be tie bars… maybe that’s what it is supposed to be, but I’ve seen both referred to by both names online and it’s confusing…so…there.)  tie bar came to me as a custom order from my friend and [lakeshore lavaliere spokesmodel 😉 ]  Erik Kabe. It looked so sharp (yep, I’m 90) on him, that I  decided that I should continue to offer the monogrammed tie bar as an option!

Monogrammed Tie Bar

Erik’s is in the traditional monogram style (which I love here), and I used Arial font for his first and middle initials (E & A), and the larger Seymour font for the K. There are also other font and style options by request!

Turquoise & Silver: Black Leather Wrap Bracelet & Sterling Silver Monogrammed Necklace

This week I am on vacation in sunny Florida- which, I have to say, is such an amazing change from the dreary subzero Chicago weather that I left behind. I wanted to spice up my warm weather wardrobe with some brightly colored accessories, so I set out to make myself a bracelet and a necklace. If you’ve read my blog before you probably know that I have an obsession with turquoise, so that was the gemstone & color I decided to go with. I realized that my turquoise pieces usually incorporate brown and gold, so I decided to go with a silver elephant button and black leather cord for the wrap bracelet, and a sterling silver chain and monogrammed disc for the necklace:

Green, Black, & Silver Bohemian Jewelry Set

This green, black, and silver floral bohemian beaded necklace, along with the earrings (and a bracelet that is still a work in progress), were part of a custom order for a matching set. Similar in design to the  whimsical bohemian necklace I posted last week, this necklace measures 16-17 inches- falling just over the collarbone. This necklace is elegant, whimsical, and fun, and definitely is versatile enough to be worn with any style of dress- although it was made to be worn for a more formal cocktail event.

Quick Style Tips (and several tangents) On Accessorizing Different Levels of Attire:

Obviously the style of necklace you wear depends on what event you are dressing for.  Shorter necklaces, sometimes called chokers (depending on the length), are usually the best accessories for the traditional formal dress styles.  (Side note: it is really difficult for me to refer to these necklaces as chokers, because to me, chokers invoke images of those black stretchy necklaces made from a pair of old tights, or the plastic, barbed wire looking ones most memorably worn by the Spice Girls. However, fashion is constantly evolving and so is the terminology, so I will try to move past it.)

As I said before, for formal event, a necklace with a shorter length (like this one) with either a drop pendant, stone, or charm is usually the most appropriate & the safest bet style-wise- as long as the neckline of your dress is, as with most formal dresses, an (appropriately) dropped neckline. If the neckline is too low, that would make the dress a style called Jersey Shore Reality TV Formal, which, translated, is a style, as recognized by the rest of the world, simply called ‘trashy’.  (This style is not to be confused with those worn by the unfortunate residents of the Jersey Shore who have no MTV ties.)  A finish with some sort of metal, and not leather or suede, which (for the most part) are materials that tend to imply a more casual look, is also best for dressier occasions.

Ok, back to this jewelry set. Annnnyways, I loved making this set because I was able to take my time (this awesome buyer gave me almost a month of advanced notice and time to work) and include so much intricate detail, highlighting each bead by using the headpins as links between the beads. I love the way the different shades of green in the jade beads, the translucent murano glass beads, and the freckled green ceramic beads create such a great range of color without clashing, and how they create such a nice contrast to the black onyx tube beads and the silver metal embellishments. In the earrings, as well as the bracelet (which is not pictured because it is still in progress) I used some of the different components of the necklace, but didn’t use all of them in both, nor did I repeat the exact combinations I used because, a. that would be boring, and b. I think that a matching set should have variations among the pieces. Without variation, the pieces work together can be too much, too matchy-matchy, or slightly overpowering and tacky. This is just my opinion, butttt it’s basically a fact. ; ) Later, I will add pictures of the finished bracelet to show how the pieces go together to create a set, but for now, here are the necklace and earrings:

Hand-Stamped Personalized Ring

Monogrammed jewelry is a great way to give a personal gift for any occasion- or for no occasion at all like this lakeshore lavaliere gold tone hand-stamped brass ring:

Image

ImageImage

This hand stamped gold tone brass ring was a gift for my roommate, who is also the lovely hand model you see in the pictures below. After stamping the blank with her initials, I used the oxidation process that I mentioned in my last post to really make sure the letters were a nice and dark contrast to the rest of the blank. Then, I punched two holes to slip the wire through in order to anchor the blank to the wire ring base & added a metal & jewelry adhesive as well to create a firmer hold. I made the ring’s base from gold tone non-tarnish copper 18-gauge wire, which is definitely the wire I prefer to work with because it doesn’t nick every time you touch it with a tool like most other jewelry/craft wires.

I’ve always loved all things monogrammed, and this ring was a fun way to be able to give a gift to the girl who is bravely entering her third year of sharing a residence with me. Next up: a ring for my other roommate.

These rings are available in any size, in silver, and can be personalized with anyone’s initials (or a word or name as long as it is short enough to fit on the blank!)

Turtle Cuff Bracelet

I’m not going to lie- I made this turtle cuff bracelet with green tube beads & jasper round beads for myself. I wear a ton of earth tones in all seasons, and when these beads came in, I fell in love with the way the greens of the tube beads accented the brown swirls of the jasper beads. I knew I wanted to make a piece that incorporated  both, so I decided to bring them together in this 4 layer cuff bracelet.

I’m kind of obsessed with cuff bracelets right now & I’ll definitely be making more in a variety of different colors- so look out for upcoming posts with pictures of new cuff bracelets and other pieces!

Silver& Green Cameo Necklace

This silver and green cameo was a custom order, and  I think the way the tarnished silver and the green look together is a great color combination that I will definitely attempt to use more often in future pieces. I added some beading and I also made wire designs to look like flowers to give this piece a fun twist.  I realized when making this necklace just how much I love cameos, and how have not done enough pieces with them recently. Point of the story: there will more where this came from!

Wire Jewelry: Hearts & Bird’s Nests

Wire Jewelry is a growing trend, and I’ve begun to see it everywhere. It seems like everybody is accessorizing with wire bracelets, rings, necklaces, and earrings, and I just love the look. Wire jewelry can come in silver, gold, and basically every other color imaginable, and the the possibilities for different designs are endless. Most popular is the wire heart ring (probably because it is the most simple for anyone to make).  I made these in the car (don’t worry I was only driving on side roads, not the expressway), and they were really easy to do:

But, I have seen more elaborate designs for sale online and in a few stores, and I thought I’d give it a try. (Also, I was not actually driving while making heart shaped wire rings, I was a passenger in my mother’s car. I can barely change the radio station while driving, much less craft new pieces of jewelry. Okay, no more parenthesis.) My favorite wire jewelry design that I have seen so far is a tiny bird’s nest on a chain, and here is the lakeshore lavaliere version below:

This lakeshore lavaliere silver wire bird’s nest necklace has real pearls and hangs on a 16 inch silver chain. I love bigger pieces of jewelry, so it’s been awhile since I wore anything as delicate or dainty as this, but I’m obsessed with the look and think it’s time to add some variety into my style choices.

The tiny wire bird’s nest necklace is such a cute way to accessorize any outfit, and the silver and pearls will add a touch of class to any formal or cocktail attire.

This necklace is for sale in the lakeshore lavaliere online store- just click the pictures to access the listing!
